China audiences to miss Oscar front-runner with appeal

 US filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's offering 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' has lost screening chances in China reportedly due to appeal by Bruce Lee’s daughter.

The release of Tarantino's Oscar 2020 front-runner was halted because the daughter of Bruce Lee, as a media source said, complained to China’s National Film Administration about her late father's portrayal who is considered a hero to many Chinese.

Tarantino has defended his choice at a Moscow press conference, noting, “Bruce Lee was kind of an arrogant guy. The way he was talking, I didn’t just make a lot of that up.”

Director Quentin Tarantino will not re-edit “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”, a media report confirms, adding, spokespeople for Sony and Tarantino denied to comment on this issue.

With upcoming China theatrical release of high grossing 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' putting on hold, this is not the first time the director's films are pulled off screens. 'Django Unchained' is a 2012 case in point which the director had to re-edit due to scenes of graphic violence and nudity.

One of the most hopefuls for Oscar 2020 was set to screen in China on October 25.
